Tap symbols on the board to build a message, then tap Speak. The sentence starters and Quick Phrases panels hold common messages, and the Type tab is a full keyboard with word prediction for spellers. Everything speaks with the same voice, instantly, with no internet needed.

Yes. Open Settings (the gear) and use Edit mode to change any button's word, symbol, and color, add new words and folders, or hide buttons. Personal photos can be used as symbols. Buttons never move as vocabulary grows, so motor patterns stay safe.

Start where the talker is comfortable: Bigger (4x6), Balanced (6x8), or Most words (8x10). The smaller grids embed exactly into the larger ones, so moving up later keeps every learned button position.

Settings, then Voices, then Create a voice. Read the short on-screen passage aloud; about eight seconds is enough. Dawn builds the voice on the device in about ten seconds. The recording never leaves the device.

Usually, yes. Dawn cleans the audio and picks the strongest stretch of the recording automatically. If the result is not right, the Voice Studio can also match your recording to the nearest of the built-in voices, and you can shape pitch and age from there.

Recording whole phrases in your own natural delivery, saved and played back exactly as spoken. It lives in the Phrases view. Many people preserve the phrases that matter most this way, alongside a created voice for everything else.

Yes. Row and column scanning with external switch support is in Settings under Access, along with hold-to-activate timing and button spacing. Dawn also works with VoiceOver and Dynamic Type, and has an easier-reading text option.

Turn on Lock Settings in Partner Tools. Opening Settings then takes a hold plus a typed grown-up question. It is optional and off by default.

Settings offers a one-tap full backup: a single file containing boards, edits, personal voices, banked messages, and photos. Save it wherever you choose, such as the Files app or your own iCloud Drive. Restoring it on any device brings everything back.

Dawn imports Open Board Format files (.obf and .obz), which most major AAC systems can export.

Nothing. No account, no analytics, no server. Words, recordings, and voices stay on the device. The full policy is short and readable: privacy policy.

Dawn is a yearly subscription with a free trial, billed by Apple through the App Store. One subscription covers iPhone and iPad. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings, then your Apple Account, then Subscriptions.

Tap Restore Purchases on that screen while signed into the same Apple Account. Your subscription comes back immediately.

Apple handles all billing, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app pushed you to a refund, we would genuinely like to hear what it was.
